Welcome to Sounds Natural Hearing Support Systems, your guide to selected nature reserves in England and Wales where SNHSS has been installed. This unique system enables people with hearing and visual disabilities to access the sounds of nature through specially designed sound equipment - bringing amplified sounds inside a
nature observatory or bird hide as they happen - providing enhanced access to the countryside throughout the seasons.

Interest in nature is universal and SNHSS are easily accessible - and not only for people with impaired hearing. Each installation is fitted with five or six headphone sockets and a hearing-aid loop and to date five mains-powered systems have been installed in the internationally important wildlife sites in the UK.

For remote sites which lack mains electricity supply, or where a low voltage .system is desirable - as in schools, hospitals and nursing homes - a battery-powered or solar-powered system has been developed... And for the millions of people who like to watch and listen to birds and wild creatures in their garden - a domestic garden nature monitor is available. It's not necessary to know exactly which birds are singing to be able to enjoy birdsong- just to hear them is often enough. Developed in 1997 by naturalist and wildlife broadcaster Dennis Furnell, Sounds Natural Hearing Support Systems is supported by BT as part of their 'Hear for All' scheme.
